Other Flash Books
Here are a number of books I’d recommend for those interested in learning more about Flash design and development.
Keith Peters‘ Foundation ActionScript 3.0 Animation (the work prior to this one) is one of the few books that actually sits beside my desk at work each day. His examples are practical and applicable in a number of different scenarios, and some of the really advanced stuff is kind of mind-blowing. If you have the opportunity, check him out “live” at one of the many Flash conferences at which he speaks.
Jason Fincanon is the reason I was able to write a book in the first place, and I would be remiss in not calling out his own book, Creating Flash Advertising. If you work at an ad agency, this is an excellent resource to have at your side. I happen to know that there is also an AS3 edition in the works.
While it may seem odd to plug another Flash game book on this site, I owe a lot of inspiration to Jobe Makar’s two Flash game books from Flash MX and MX 2004. If you want some really in-depth coverage of topics like isometric worlds and/or you still need to develop in AS1/2 for some reason, I highly recommend them. He also has a new book on multiplayer game development using his company’s multiuser server solution.
